Getting a job as a developer is one of the most exciting moments of our career. But it can also be hard if we do not know where to start. In this post, I share what I learned when I wrote my first cover letter to apply for a Junior Developer position.
What do companies look for in a Junior Developer?
Technology companies look for candidates who show:
- Basic technical skills (Python, databases, web development)
- Ability to learn fast
- Teamwork and good communication
- Responsibility and initiative
- Ability to solve technical problems
How to write a good cover letter
The cover letter is your first impression with the HR team. Some key tips:
- Personalize each letter for the company and the specific job
- Mention your technical skills: Python, database management, web development
- Show your soft skills: teamwork, fast learning, responsibility
- Be clear and short - recruiters read hundreds of letters
- Close with confidence - invite them to an interview

- An invitation to an interview with your contact information
